About REC Courses (Rescue Emergency Care)
Recognised by MLTB, RYA, BCU and many other National Sport Governing Bodies. Rescue Emerency Care (REC) is a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved organisation (number 1529/95) The REC scheme was originally devised by Dr Bob Phillips and Prof G Page for the Scottish Ski Patrols.
It was felt that other more traditional National First Aid Associations did not make provision for those individuals operating in more remote areas. The REC courses therefore were designed to cover not only the first aid needs required to meet the HSE guidelines, which are quite appropriate for those practicing their first aid skills in the urban environment with an ambulance never far away, but also for those people working or simply playing in more remote areas. Here the challenges of protracted casualty care when medical help may be hours instead of minutes away are addressed.
The popularity of these very practical, lively and involved coruses spread to other industries such as outdoor education and the demand became so great that Dr Phillips set up REC in order to meet that demand. He set about delivering courses himself and began training other insturctors in their specialist fields to teach within the REC framework all over the UK and Europe.
Quality assurance and continual improvement is maintained through candidates completion of an end of course feedback form which is collated by REC head office.
