About Katherine WillsKatherine Wills

Active First Aid Courses are delivered by Katherine Wills a qualified physical education teacher with over 30 years of hands on first aid experience.

She holds the Rescue Emergency Care Instructional Certificate (REC) and has been involved with REC for over 12 years. She also freelances as a first aid specialist at public events.

Katherine is an active mountaineer both in summer and winter and is a dedicated and active member of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team (LLMRT) one of the busiest teams in the UK. For a number of years she was the Chair of the Medical Sub Committee and took responsibility for maintaining and progressing the team’s first aid equipment. She relinquished this role a few years ago to concentrate on her writing. For the last five years she has been working on producing the only UK based book covering basic first aid within the UK remote setting. Titled ‘Outdoor First Aid’ it gives the reader an insight into the challenges of doing first aid in remote environments within the UK and offers guidance on methods of evacuating a casualty and issues around calling for Mountain Rescue assistance. The book is being published by Pesda Press and expected in the shops late Spring 2012. Although this has taken a huge amount of her time she still continues to play a significant role in the team’s call outs and first aid training.

Llanberis Mountain rescue Team TrainingKatherine holds the Mountain Rescue Councils Casualty Care first aid certificate as well as the Emergency Care in Mountain Rescue Advanced certificate.

Using her experience she is able to provide an insight for those interested into the challenges of having to do first aid in more remote situations.

Active First Aid Training believes that First Aid is about 'doing' and so the emphasis of the courses is on the practical element. With no medical jargon and plenty of hands on work, Katherine gives candidates the opportunity to become confident in providing care, and the ability to apply general first aid principles in each and every first aid situation they may find themselves in.
